August 2004 Meeting Report

Venue:
Date:
Time:

Branch Treasurer's House, Uckfield
10th August 2004
7.30pm-10pm

Our August meeting was the Branch's first BBQ (or SaaBQ), held at the Treasurer's house in Uckfield.

The evening was very pleasant, after the constant rain of the few days previously.

Thanks go to several people who contributed to the event:

  • Richard (Treasurer) and Bryony for supplying the venue, food, drink, range of desserts and amusing signs.
  • Rob, for not only allowing us to use his BBQ, but also for cooking all the food to perfection. Best wishes also to Rob who has recently got married and is enjoying his newly married life on their honeymoon as you read this!
  • Toby for bringing the prize and extra chairs.
  • John Parr for winning the prize by bringing some of his very interesting selection of Saab memorabilia.
  • Rowan & Penny at SES for the display cabinet and products.

There was much lively discussion while we all tucked into the variety of food on offer, including congratulations to Branch Secretary Toby on his appointment as I.T. Director of the Saab Owner's Club. Toby is currently working feverishly to update the SOC Website.

Interestingly, although the invite stated that members could bring their own alcoholic drinks, none chose to do so, re-inforcing the 'Don't drink and drive' message among our members.

The meeting provided plenty to laugh at, such as the high pressure turbo-selling of the products by Richard, the cereal packet strut-brace discussion and, for the first time in Branch history, Toby arrived with a Saab, although it was only 3 inches long!

Other topics discussed included the fact that the East Sussex Branch of the Saab Owner's Club will be having it's AGM at the October meeting, as we will have been operating for a year, thanks again to Toby and Mike for starting it all at the Blackboys Inn last October.

The whole evening was a rip-roaring success - thanks to all that came!

Next Meeting: Tuesday 21st September at the Horseshoe Inn, Windmill Hill. < DETAILS >
