November 2003 Meeting Report

November's meeting was held at the Crowborough & District Social Club. The venue was offered by one of our members, who is the president of the Club.

Although it was very foggy, the location was reasonably easy to find and ample parking was provided in the Waitrose car park directly opposite the club. When we arrived, free snacks were on hand and cheap drinks were available from the bar.

The Social Club is at our disposal whenever we would like to use it, so we have decided to meet there every 4 months. Our next meeting in Crowborough will therefore be on Tuesday 9th March at 8pm.

We had a total of 9 members and non-members arrive which, although small, made for a close and friendly meeting.

Because we have not yet decided on a venue for our January meeting, suggestions were sought. A good suggestion put forward was the Horseshoe Inn in Windmill Hill near Herstmonceux.

Topics covered on the evening included car insurance, Jeremy Clarkson’s review of the 9-5 Aero on Top Gear, parts prices and recommended repairers, track days and performance tuning. Insurance was something that people were eager to talk about but most of us wanted to find out from an expert, ways to reduce our premiums. Chris Knott, the official owners club insurance broker has been contacted regarding attending a future meeting.

There was great interest in whether it would be worth arranging a day out to Abbott Racing in Essex. Although they are not open on Saturdays, some members were led to believe that Abbott would open if enough people were to attend. More details will follow if something can be arranged.
